Arctic Life 06:09
Arctic Life I don’t know where to begin Here on the edge of the world where the Eskimos say “Ah, live for today” Spending a life on the ice Living in darkness till summer approaches once more Oh show me the door Looking for something to eat Seal’s on the menu I’m hunting through half of the night I’m getting uptight Waiting for ships with supplies Snowed in for months and the time is just dragging so slow Nowhere to go I never felt like this before I’m all at sea Just to carry on a few months more I need you here with me Lyrics ©Paul Dennis
2.
The Silent Room You say it’s in my mind For forty long years, I’ve been blind Locked up in a padded cell I’m waiting for the day I can pour my heart out to you Giving all my thoughts away, the World looks strange to me Giving all my thoughts away, the World looks strange to me All I want to do yeah, is lead a normal life All I want to do yeah, is lead a normal life The Silent Room The Silent Room Maybe after all this time, outside is not the same Maybe after all this time, they’ll use a different name All I want to do yeah, is lead a normal life All I want to do yeah, is lead a normal life The Silent Room The Silent Room Lyrics ©Paul Dennis

The Last Voyage A friendly wave, a silent tear is all that’s seen Amongst the crowd the brightest jewel there’s ever been Never, never to part we’d said but we’re both standing here Looking out for miracles that never will appear And now it’s time to take this country by the hand Too bad it’s only now you start to understand I don’t want to go down and see the World from down below Take a chance and visit me if you would like to go Lyrics ©Paul Dennis

about

The Mk.1 lineup of Trilogy - including original bass player John Garnett - recorded three tracks at Goldust Studios in Bromley, UK on the 14th and 15th of March 1982, with studio owner Mark Dawson at the controls.

The powerful and melodic music they created, with its rich layers of guitars, synths and Moog bass pedals, drew inevitable comparisons with the likes of Rush and ELP. Described by reviewers as “technically brilliant” and “the only demo which made me forget I was listening to a demo”, the quality of these early recordings sounded more like album tracks by a far more experienced band.

Armed with this tape, Trilogy went on to secure regular gigs at the legendary Bridge House and Ruskin Arms venues in East London. A review in Sounds by Geoff Banks noted that “after only six months they are already better than most bands after six albums”.

Forty years on, The Goldust Tapes have been restored from the original masters and are sounding better than ever. They are now available on CD and digital download for the first time.
